This is a unique opportunity in many ways. It is a camp within a camp where kids get a chance to interact with players and coaches from other sports. It is also a camp that is focused on developing participants as young athletes, not just as basketball, volleyball, soccer or American Football players.

There are college coaches taking part in the camp. We are also fortunate to have personnel from Keystone Sports on site to guide participants on the recruiting process. However, we see this camp as a chance to prepare young athletes for the recruiting process. We want to provide them with the tools and the knowledge to chase their dreams. 

We want to make it clear that we are looking for young athletes who want to push themselves and are driven to be the best they can possibly be. For us it is very important that the participants have a mindset that they want to be “elite”. This mindset is more important to us than their current skill level in many cases. If you don’t want to be pushed, challenged and encouraged then we don’t want you to come to this camp. 

Each day starts and ends with all of the participants together to talk about the day ahead and to hear from one of the coaches. The day then has two two hour sessions on the field or court. Along with those two sessions the athletes will have two other one hour sessions. One session is a guest speaker on topics like nutrition, sport psychology, NCAA recruiting and more. There is also a one hour “hands on” session where they learn about topics like lifting techniques, stretching, footwork and sport specific testing. Each day is full and when you add breaks for lunch, snacks, journaling and hydration it leads to an exhausting day both mentally and physically.  

Registration happens through the partners in each sport. This means that you register with the coaches who are running each of the four sports. All of the sessions that are run outside the sport specific training sessions are run in English. Fluency might not be needed, but it is important that participants be able to understand the guest speakers who are presenting at the camp. Lots of the coaches and administrators associated with the camp speak various other languages, the camp operates mainly in English.

The first two years of Elite Week had a very international feel. There were student athletes from ISB and other international schools in the region. We have also had American participants who came from the DoDEA schools. There is then a wide range of young athletes coming from across Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and France.
