ISB Arts

Music, Drama and Visual Arts are a vital part of life at ISB. Apart from the intrinsic value of these activities at all levels, we believe that artistic expression enriches our understanding of the world and helps students learn the dispositions for a successful and fulfilled life: collaboration; shared responsibility; focus; and the importance of dedication and performance.

Theatre Arts

Theatre Arts is a dynamic, collaborative, and live art form. It is a practical subject that encourages discovery through experimentation, risk-taking, and the presentation of ideas to others. It results in the development of both theatre and life skills; the building of confidence, creativity, and working collaboratively.

The Theatre courses at ISB challenge the students to think about their message, their audience, and their process. Through the study of theatre, students become aware of their own personal and cultural perspectives, while developing an appreciation of the diversity of performing arts practices, and understanding the importance Theatre Arts have to culture and humanity as a whole.

Visual Arts

At ISB, we believe in the creative learner. Humans have always expressed their interpretations of the world through a rich range of creative media. The arts can influence societal development by challenging commonly held perspectives with creative ideas. We all have a capacity for creativity. The Visual Arts are embedded into ISB teaching and learning from the very first Preschool class through to the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Music

Music is an integral part of learning at ISB and accessible to every student from pre-K through to the High School. Deepening our understanding of the world, its cultures and its humanity, through music, is a distinct benefit of our artistic investment in every child. Collaboration, shared responsibility, focus, and the disciplines of rehearsal and performance are primordial to the student musical experience.

ISB offers performance opportunities from grade 1 to 12, both as part of the Curriculum and as part of our co-curricular programme, such as: full-scale theatre productions including musicals, self-devised works and straight plays; technical theatre opportunities; strings, band (including jazz), and choir concerts from grade 5 through High School on Campus and at local venues.

In addition, students have the opportunity to take private music lessons. ISB works with independent professional musicians who offer lessons in flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, violin, viola, cello, double bass, voice, piano, guitar, and percussion.
