Growing independence and self-direction
Grade 7 - Grade 9 (Ages 12 to 14)
The ISB learning experience is designed as a continuous journey of self-development from Nursery to High School graduation. We believe that every year spent at ISB is a unique opportunity for your child to engage with a coherent curriculum that is developmentally appropriate, tailored to your child's individual learning needs, and preparative for a world beyond school.
How do we know that our students are successful?
An introduction to the Middle School
The ISB learning experience in the Middle School is one in which, at a time of rapid intellectual and personal change, students strengthen their independent learning skills and begin to pursue specific learning interests. Learning in the Middle School is characterised by:
- Adapted courses to provide challenge for the academically able, as well as learning support for those with learning difficulties
- Regular homework, continuous assessment and examinations at the end of each year
- Opportunities to participate in one of Europe's largest competitive athletic programmes
- Regular music and theatre productions
- Strong student community and a commitment to service
- A broad curriculum programme. Most students take six core subjects each day and two additional electives on alternate days.

A Daily 'Advisory' Class
The same group of students meet with the same teacher and focus on the social and ethical aspects of life as an international student. Service to the community is actively promoted.
Extended Field Trips in May
Field trips to Brittany (grade 7), Normandy (grade 8) and the Loire Valley (grade 9) supplement the curriculum in all subject areas.
The Head of the Middle School is Dr. Michael Crowley.
